3030 Ocean Wins Overall and Best Broward Restaurant Awards at the OBIES

3030 Ocean, run by executive chef and Hell’s Kitchen Season 5 runner-up, Paula DaSilva, picked up two awards at the Orange Bowl Impact and Excellence (OBIES) Awards: A Taste of South Florida presented by Florida Blue on Friday, May 29 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. 3030 Ocean won Best Broward Restaurant and the Overall Flavor of South Florida Award with its dish: local wahoo, avocado and fermented pepper sauce.

Culinary personality, restaurateur and New York Times best-selling author, Fabio Viviani was this year’s celebrity chef and the event was hosted by former Miami Dolphin and current WIOD morning show host Jimmy Cefalo and Brenda Bassett who together host “Eat This, Drink That, Go!” on WIOD, iHeart Radio and The Beach Channel. This year, approximately 600 patrons came out to support The OBIES: A Taste of South Florida presented by Florida Blue. It was a night of extraordinary food, entertainment and giving as the Orange Bowl Committee celebrated those who share in the organization’s values in giving back to the South Florida community.

More than 30 restaurants and vendors participated. In addition to the winners, those that participated were Siena Tavern, Bull Dog Barbeque & Burger, S3, YOLO, Fork & Balls, Truluck’s, Diplomat Prime, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Texas de Brazil, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Mercer Estates, G & B Oyster Bar, Red Cow, Kuro, Casa D’ Angelo Ristorante, Novecento Aventura, Shake Shack, Anheuser-Busch, Libbylicious, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, The Cheese Course, SuViche Las Olas, Chocolate Stars USA, Delgrosso Fine Italian Foods, Red Cap, The New Times and SOBE Promos.

At the OBIES, the Orange Bowl Committee honored an individual for his dedication to the South Florida community. Dwight Stephenson and his foundation were recognized for the significant impact they have made in the community with the Orange Bowl Keith Tribble Community Service Excellence Award.

Orange Bowl Keith Tribble Community Service Excellence Award:
Miami Dolphin great and NFL Hall of Famer Dwight Stephenson is the Founder of The Dwight Stephenson Foundation. The 501 (c) 3 organization combines the sports and business communities in an effort to generate increased funding for charities that provide educational, health and human services to support the needs of children and families. The foundation generates funding for a variety of charitable organizations including United Cerebral Palsy, The Urban League of Broward County, The Boys and Girls Clubs and The American Diabetes Association, to name a few. Stephenson has successfully achieved his vision of combining his two passions – business and sports – to generate funds to further increase his support of charities that are near and dear to his heart.

Six high school senior student athletes from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties also received scholarships toward their college education.

The Orange Bowl Committee and Make-A-Wish Southern Florida surprised nine year-old “Wish Kid” Edruanee by bringing her on stage to cook Macaroni and Cheese, with Chef Viviani. She was then told that her wish to go on a Disney Cruise with her family has been granted.

Over the years, the Orange Bowl has been able to invest millions of dollars toward South Florida youth and sports through support of intercollegiate athletics, education, events, organizations and causes, in addition to the tremendous economic impact it provides. At this year’s event, approximately $100,000 was given back to the South Florida community with the event proceeds going toward Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, Special Olympics Florida and the Orange Bowl Leadership Academy.
