Orange Bowl to Host Free One-Day Cheerleading Camp at St. Thomas University

News-Thumbnail_2018CheerClinicOn Saturday, July 14, at St. Thomas University, the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA) will host its free OBYFA cheer camp. MetroPCS is the presenting sponsor of both the OBYFA and the cheer camp, which is presented in association with the National Cheerleading Association (NCA).

The free one-day camp, open to all OBYFA coaches and cheerleaders ages five to 16, will be tailored to the specific youth age groups and will progress at the campers’ pace. Athletes will participate in a series of classes and drills, and teams will go through an evaluation with buddy instructors to learn new material for the upcoming season.  Participants will attend classes that cover the following topics: safety, cheer/chant, dance, motion technique and many more.

Coaches will have the opportunity to benefit from coaching curriculum specific to cheerleader development, age appropriateness and safety.

“This free cheer camp is part of our continued commitment to the youth in our community,” said Orange Bowl Committee President and Chair Sean Pittman. “The coaches and athletes will have the opportunity to learn from some of the most highly trained professionals in the nation.  Our participants always have a fun time, but more importantly, they leave this camp with a better understanding of safety, development and good sportsmanship.”

Entering its 20th season, the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance presented by MetroPCS has more than 15,000 youth participants, playing in eight leagues across South Florida, from north of Lake Okeechobee to Key West. Since its inception in 1999, the Orange Bowl has invested more than $7 million in youth sports in South Florida.
