Upcoming Orange Bowl Youth Sports Clinics

2018OBYFAYouthClinics_Social_FacebookBeginning in June, the Orange Bowl will offer youth athletes and coaches several opportunities to attend sports clinics throughout South Florida that promote proper safety, development, good sportsmanship and education.

Over the years, the Orange Bowl has been able to invest millions of dollars in the South Florida community through its four pillars of community outreach: youth sports, fundraising and community events, academic programs and scholarships, and legacy gifts.

This year, the Orange Bowl will partner with the University of Miami, Head Football Coach Mark Richt and his staff to host two free youth football clinics. The first clinic took place on Friday, June 8, at Lake Lytal Park in West Palm Beach and the second will take place on Monday, June 11, at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale.

On Saturday, July 14, at St. Thomas University, the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA) presented by MetroPCS will host its free OBYFA Cheer Camp presented by MetroPCS in association with the National Cheerleading Association (NCA). Classes will be tailored to youth-specific age groups and will start with the basics and progress at the campers’ pace. Athletes will participate in a series of classes and drills and teams will go through an evaluation with buddy instructors to learn new material for the upcoming season.

In addition, on Sunday, July 22, the Orange Bowl will host the OBYFA Football Clinic presented by MetroPCS, which is free for boys and girls ages 5-14. FIU Head Football Coach Butch Davis and his assistant coaches will lead participants through a variety of football skills and drills including proper techniques to promote on-field football safety.

Beginning Sunday, June 17, the Orange Bowl will host four coaches’ clinics in conjunction with USA Football for all OBYFA coaches to attend. USA Football will bring in USA Football Master Trainers to lead the clinics and educate coaches on how “Heads Up Football” is a safer way to practice and play.

USA Football has worked with leaders in both medicine and sport across the country to create a full-featured program that any league or school can use to address key safety issues — and ensure that every coach understands and knows how to implement each component of the program.
